A Love Note to CHANEL

CHANEL.

What more can I say?!

This is my favorite brand of all time! Let me tell you why.

……….

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, also know as Coco, pioneered many things we take for granted in our own wardrobes. But before we go too far, I want to tell you some of her biography.

“Coco” Chanel started in millinery (the business of making women’s hats) and in 1910 she was able to open up multiple millinery shops. It was then when she started to make clothing. A dress she made out of old jersey for a cold day started it all. It is said she was asked where she got it and offered to make the admirer one. An important mantra for her was that “luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.”

Then in 1920 she launched her first fragrance, Chanel No. 5.  This was the first fragrance to have a designers name in the title.

Later in 1925 she introduced her legendary Chanel suit. A dress/jacket combination with a fitted skirt and a collarless jacket. It was revolutionary because she took elements from mens’ wear and combined them with feminine ideals and comfort over all.

She is also known for making little evening dresses in black (LBD) adorned with costume jewelry, usually strands of pearls. The little black dress was a new innovation because Chanel took a color that was previously reserved for mourning and death and taught us how chic and elegant it can be.

……………..

Now, I can tell you why I like her so much.

Other than the fact that she was a pioneer in the fashion world, she was always wanting to make something look expensive without the real cost. Hence her love for costume jewelry.

But her simple and elegant designs are what I love about Chanel. She is classic and her garments drip of legacy and a time long gone. You can always spot a knock off or another designer using her as an influence but nothing beats the real thing! Those double C’s will haunt me forever!
